On This Day September 5th.

September 5: On this day in 1959, the first formal induction of Hockey Hall of Fame members took place in Toronto. The HHOF was established in 1943 with members first inducted in 1945, but 1959 was the first time the league ceremoniously honoured its newly elected members as well as those previously inducted. Former Toronto Arena and St. Pats player Jack Adams was one of three newly inducted members. Most of the living previously elected members were present at the celebration.
