June 17: On this day in 1989, with the 3rd pick overall in the Entry Draft, the Leafs chose centerman Scott Thornton. He only played 33 games as a Leaf and had just one goal before being sent to Edmonton in a huge trade in September of 1991. As of 2007, Thornton's NHL game total was approaching 900. The players the Leafs received in exchange are all long gone.
