November 26: On this day in 1917, The birth of the NHL when five of the League's six owners met at he Windsor Hotel to hash out the agreement that would give birth to the League. Teams included the Montreal Canadiens, Montreal Wanderers, Ottawa Senators, Toronto Arenas, and Quebec Bulldogs. Quebec (pictured) did not play during the 1917-18 season. Read Commemoration Story...

November 26: On this day in 1986, Leafs defenseman Borje Salming was cut for over 250 stitches when Gerard Gallant of the Detroit Red Wings accidentally stepped on his face during a goalmouth scramble. Salming, who was just coming off an 8-game league suspension for admitted cocaine usage, was out for another significant chunk of the 1986-87 season.

November 26: On this day in 1988, Leaf goaltender Allan Bester stopped Minnesota sniper Dino Ciccarelli on a penalty shot. In his career as a Leaf, Bester faced 5 penalty shots and stopped them all.
