September 6: On this day in 1959, Bill Root was born in Toronto, Ontario. Root became a Leaf defenseman in the summer of 1984 after a trade with Montreal. Coming to one of the worst teams in Maple Leaf history, Root went from being a plus-26 with the Habs to a disastrous minus-25 with the Leafs in just 35 games in 1984-85. Root lasted 96 games through 1987 with Toronto.
September 6: On this day in 1986, Jerome Dupont and Ken Yaremchuk were transferred to Toronto by Chicago along with a 4th round draft choice as compensation for free agent defenseman Gary Nylund having signed with Chicago. Dupont played 13 games with the Leafs and was pointless. Yaremchuk played a total of 47 games as a Leaf over 3 seasons and had 19 points.
