April 17: On this day in 1951, the Leafs edged the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 in Game 3 of the Finals. This time the hero was captain Ted Kennedy, scoring the game winner at 4:47 of overtime on Montreal Forum ice. It was the third of a record five straight games that went into overtime.

April 17: On this day in 1977, a four goal and five point performance by Lanny McDonald of the Leafs was spoiled when the Philadelphia Flyers roared back from a 5-2 deficit to beat the Leafs 6-5 in overtime. Reggie Leach scored the O/T goal for Philly and it swung the momentum of the series as the Flyers also took the next two games and eliminated Toronto in six. It marked the third straight year that the Flyers knocked the Leafs out of further playoff contention.
