July 14: On this day in 1908, Benny Grant was born in Owen Sound, Ontario. Goalie Ben Grant was a part-time player for three different NHL clubs between 1928-29 and 1943-44. He was best known as a minor league workhorse, especially in the AHL. Grant was a replacement goalie for Lorne Chabot between 1929 and 1933 when he played in 17 games over four seasons. Ten years later, he signed as a free agent with the Leafs and played in 20 more games during the 1943-44 season as a wartime replacement for Turk Broda.
