February 2: On this day in 1977, Leaf defenceman Ian Turnbull became the first defenseman in NHL history to score five goals in one game. Turnbull's five goals came through five shots on goal. Turnbull's goals came against Red Wings' goalies Ed Giacomin (3) and Jim Rutherford (2). On that night, the Leafs blasted the Detroit Red Wings 9-1. As of the end of the 2007-08 season, no other NHL defenseman has had a five-goal game.

February 2: On this day in 1993, the Leafs conducted a trade that worked out to be heavily in their favour when they acquired Dave Andreychuk, backup goalie Darren Puppa and a first round draft choice from Buffalo in exchange for goalie Grant Fuhr and a 5th round pick. Andreychuk went on score 54 goals in 1992-93 and remains the all-time NHL leader for most goals in a season after having being traded in mid-season.

Traded to Colorado by Boston with Raymond Bourque for Brian Rolston, Martin Grenier, Samuel Pahlsson and New Jersey's 1st round choice (previously acquired, Boston selected Martin Samuelsson) in 2000 Entry Draft, March 6, 2000. February 2: On this day in 2010, Jean-Sebastien Giguere became the second Leafs goalie to record a shutout in his debut as a leaf with a 3-0 win over the new Jersey Devils. The other was Ed Belfour on October 10th. when the Leafs opened their 2002-03 campaign with a 6-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
