On This Day June 3rd.

June 3: On this day in 1975, the Leafs drafted Don Ashby as their first choice, 6th overall in the 1975 Amateur Draft. With the departures of Dave Keon and Norm Ullman to the rival WHA, Ashby immediately became one of the Leafs' top centermen. The pressure may have been too much as he scored but 6 goals in his rookie season. At the end of the 1979 season, he was traded to Colorado. A couple of years later, Don Ashby was killed in a car accident at the age of 26.
