July 24: On this day in 1996, Scott Pearson re-signed with the Maple Leafs as a free agent. He only played in one game as a Leaf the following season. Pearson had been a Leaf first round draft choice, 6th overall in 1988 but only played in 62 games for the big team in the three subsequent seasons between 1988 and 1991. In total, Pearson scored 5 goals as a Leaf.

July 24: On this day in 2001, the Leafs signed center Bob Wren as a free agent. Wren played in only one regular season game as a Leaf as well as one playoff game. He was traded the following season to Nashville for Nathan Perrot.
