September 12: On this day in 1944, former Leaf centerman Ron Ward was born in Cornwall, Ontario. Ward was with the Leafs on opening night for the 1969-70 season, his first NHL game. In all he played just 18 games for the Leafs without scoring a goal. He was lost the following summer to the Vancouver Canucks in the Expansion Draft.
September 12: On this day in 1948, former Leaf defenseman Joe Lundrigan was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Lundrigan played his first NHL game as a Leaf on October 29, 1972 and went on to play a total of 49 games with Toronto, all during the 1972-73 season. Despite playing for a struggling Leaf squad that finished the season with a losing record and missed the playoffs, Lundrigan was a solid plus-4. He was lost to the Washington Capitals in the 1974 Expansion Draft.
