July 20: On this day in 1979, Floyd Smith was hired as Head Coach of the Leafs. The following 1979-80 season was his only one behind the Leaf bench after being injured in a car crash in March of 1980. His record as coach was 33-30-5 in 68 games. Smith had been a player with the Leafs between 1968 and 1970. After coaching, Smith became a scout and eventually General Manager for the Maple Leafs.
July 20: On this day in 1992, defenseman Brad Marsh was traded for the final time in his NHL career when he was sent to Ottawa by the Leafs for future considerations.
