August 1: On this day in 1907, Gus Marker was born in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. Marker became a Maple Leaf forward in November of 1938, coming over from the Montreal Maroons in exchange for $4,000 in cash. He played 112 games for the blue and white over the next 3 seasons, scoring 23 goals and adding 23 assists.

August 1: On this day in 1956, Dave Farrish was born in Wingham, Ontario. Farrish was a defenseman for 209 games with the Leafs between 1979 and 1984. His last Leaf game was April Fool's Day, 1984 and it turned out to be his last game in the NHL.

August 1: On this day in 1965, Harold "Slim" Halderson passed away in Winnipeg Manitoba. He was 65 years old. Halderson was traded by Detroit to Toronto during the 1926-27 season when the team was purchased by Conn Smythe and the name changed to the Maple Leafs. He also concluded his NHL career that same season.
