On This Day September 23rd.

September 23: On this day in 1951, the Leafs traded John McCormack to the Canadiens for cash. In January of the previous season, McCormack had been punished by Leaf boss Conn Smythe for breaking a team rule by getting married in mid-season. He was dispatched to the minors and never played a game for the Leafs again. Nevertheless, he did qualify to get his name engraved on the Stanley Cup as a member of the 1951 Cup-winning Leafs. Altogether, McCormack played in 84 games for the Leafs between 1948 and 1951, scoring 25 points.
