On This Day December 19th.

December 19: On this day in 1917, the Toronto Arenas (later the Toronto St. Patricks and then the Toronto Maple Leafs) lost their first ever NHL game to the Montreal Wanderers 10-9. Future Arena Dave Ritchie scored the first goal in NHL history one minute into the game. It was the first and only victory for the Montreal Wanderers in their short history in the NHL. The next time the Leafs would be involved in a game with as many as 20 goals by both teams would be 68 years later in January of 1986.

December 19: On this day in 2009, Jonas "The Monster" Gustavsson likely couldn't have picked a better team to get his first NHL shutout against. Making his first start since undergoing minor heart surgery for the second time this season, Gustavsson stopped 25 shots to blank the Boston Bruins 2-0 on Saturday night at Air Canada Centre.
