December 27: On this day in 1919, the Toronto franchise, now known as the St. Patricks for the first time, won their home opener 7-4 against the Quebec Bulldogs. That same year, the Bulldogs had the highest goals against average in NHL history. They allowed 177 goals in just 24 games for a GAA of 7.38. The Quebec Bulldogs played only one season in the NHL.
December 27: On this day in 1961, Hall of Fame goalie Johnny Bower stopped 30 shots and shutout the Chicago Black Hawks. Hall of Fame goalie Glenn Hall also stopped 30 shots and shutout the Maple Leafs.The game ended in a 0-0 tie.
