July 23: On this day in 1977, Shawn Thornton was born in Oshawa, Ontario. Thornton was the Leafs 7th round pick, 190th overall in the 1997 Entry draft. He never played a game for the Leafs. In September, 2001 he was traded to Chicago for Marty Wilford. As of 2007, Wilford has yet to play a game in the NHL. After spending most of his playing time in the minors with the Hawks organization, Thornton signed as a free agent with the Anaheim Ducks in the summer of 2006. His timing was perfect. He played in 48 regular season games and 15 more for the Ducks in the 2007 playoffs and now has his name engraved on the Stanley Cup.
