August 16: On this day in 1966, Ed Olczyk was born in Chicago, Illinois. Olczyk was a Leaf for just over three seasons between 1987 and 1990. In his first season with the Leafs, Olczyk exploded offensively with 42 goals. He later centered Toronto's "GEM" line between Gary Leeman and Mark Osborne. Altogether, "Eddie O" put up numbers that exceeded a point per game in his time with the Leafs with 116 goals and 151 assists in 257 games.

August 16: On this day in 1984, defenseman Bill Kitchen signed as a free agent with the Leafs, hoping to find more ice time in Toronto. He played only in 29 games with the big club during the 1984-85 season and retired after spending the entire next season in the minors.
