September 22: On this day in 1934, Gerry McNamara was born in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario. McNamara made his debut with the Leafs on February 15, 1961 as a replacement in goal for the injured Johnny Bower. He played in five games that season with a 2-2-1 record. He also made a couple of appearances 9 seasons later in 1970. McNamara went on to become a scout for the Leafs and was the one who recommended Borje Salming to the team. In 1981 he became the Leafs' General Manager and lasted through 1988 as an unpopular figure in Toronto during one of the worst sequences in franchise history.
