May 26: On this day in 1950, ex-Leaf star player Joe Primeau was hired as coach of the Maple Leafs, replacing 5-time Stanley-Cup winner, Hap Day. In his first season behind the Leafs bench, the Leafs compiled a record of 41-16-13 and followed up with a five game Stanley Cup victory over Montreal. Primeau coached the Leafs for three seasons until March of 1953 when he resigned after the team missed the playoffs.
